Running Slowly May be Due to:

  • Having too much software open or insufficient free space left on your hard drive BUT

If Your Drive is Running So Slowly it Can't Even Open a Folder to View Files:

  • It suggests media failure (e.g. damaged / corrupt disk sectors due to fire, smoke, heat, water etc)
  • Sometimes damaged sectors are caused by mechanical failure affecting the read / write heads, in which case continuing to use the drive may result in a ‘head crash’, making the problem worse
