Be Aware of the ‘Normal’ Sounds Your Hard Drive Makes, So That Any ‘Abnormal’ Sounds May Alert You to Impending Problems:
- In particular, ‘clicking’ or ‘banging’ sounds are common signs indicating erratic behaviour of the internal read/write heads
- Similarly, ‘beeping’ or ‘chirping’ sounds commonly indicate a failing disk motor
In either case, the disk must be switched off immediately to avoid a ‘head crash’, which is likely to completely destroy the hard disk surface and any stored data.
